Friday 12th August
This evening we were the guests of Nick Preston at the awards night of The Cobra Ju-Jitsu Club.
Ju- Jitsu originated in Japan and is now popular through out the world. The martial art consists of a system of throws, joint locks and strikes and can be used by men, women and children to counter aggressive situations. Ju-Jitsu is all about dealing with aggressive situations not starting them. I can imagine many uses of it and can understand it’s popularity.
The Cobra Ju-Jitsu Club in Skegness meets every Friday. Juniors from 6:30-7:30pm and Seniors 8:00-9:30pm. In total it has about 60 members although female seniors seemed to be a bit thin on the ground which really surprised me. In view of the self defence style of this martial art I would have thought it would have been very popular with women of all ages. Come on ladies give it a go!!
The awards presentation was to allow students to receive their new belts and badges following a recent grading event. It was also an opportunity to demonstrate their newly learnt skills to family members who had also been invited to the evening. All, if not nearly all, students received a new grading which goes to show the quality of the teaching they receive from Nick and his team.
There was also an award of a small trophy given to the student with the best attendance. This must of cost Nick a fortune as most of the club members had 100% attendance and consequently they all received one of these trophies.
Both Cath and I were impressed with the demonstrations given by the members who obviously enjoy being part of the club. With the warmth of the reception we received from Nick and his team we can understand why.
So if you fancy giving Ju-Jitsu a go and are aged between 8 and 108 you can find out more about the club here. Alternativly give Nick a call on 0792 33 66 210 or pop down to the club at Grosvenor Road Studio, Grosvenor Road on a Friday evening.
