Sunday 26th June

At 11 o’clock on a beautiful sunny morning I opened the Town Twinning Gala in the Tower Gardens, Skegness.

mayor Steve Kirk with Twinning Chairman Brian Chapman

Skegness is twinned with the German town of Bad Gandersheim. For over 30 years the members of the  association have fostered friendships with members of the Twinning aAssociation in Bad Gandersheim. Every second year we have a fantastic visit  to Germany on a date that always seems to coincide with their beer festival, strange that! They come over and visit us on the alternate year.

This year it is their turn to come to Skegness and they will be with us in July. It is customary for the host to arrange events or meals for them at no cost which is why it is important for the Twinning Association to raise funds to pay for these. The Twinning Gala is one such fund raising event.

The gala is an opportunity for charities and groups in the town to hire a stall for the day from the Twinning Association and raise some money for their group by holding a tombola or the like. That way everybody make a few quid!

Every ones a winner. Not

Mayor Steve kirk with Margaret taylor

I don’t know who she is but she seems to get everywhere. If you recognise her please ask her to shut up!!!!

This Gala is one of several events that are arranged like this so please look out for them over coming Sundays and try and support local groups with a pound or two if you can.

If you fancy a trip over to Germany next year, and can cope with two days of great beer and men in leather shorts (that’s just the Skeggy lot) give Brian Chapman a ring on 01754 761617.

Das ist alles für heute Leute.
